Husets Happenings

8/18/2009

Team Crown and driver Jody Rosenboom looked to bounce back from a cut tire the week before which kept them out of a top 3 finish at Husets Speedway. They came in prepared to do weekly battle, but found themselves with a little more company in the 360 division due to the Knoxville Nationals being postponed to Sunday and the 410 drivers getting the week off. “It really made it a little more interesting to see who was going to show up from the 410 class with a 360 in their car.” said owner Jason Johnson. “We only had a few more show up, but we also had a few that didn’t come that are normally in the class. It made it a little tougher competition with those other cars coming in, and they allowed them to start in a draw position as well, so it kind of took away from the cars that have supported them every week. Not the right decision in my mind, but it is what it is.” Jody started on the pole of the 2nd heat race and quickly raced to the lead and the win. The redraw saw the #27 sitting outside the 3rd row for the feature event. After a great battle for the 4th and soon the 3rd place position with Gregg Bakker, Jody took to reeling in the 2nd place car of Cody Hansen and just nipping him at the checkered flag for 2nd place. “We really had the car going good tonight and if we’d have had more laps we’d have won that race. It was just a matter of a narrow and equal track making it a little difficult to pass and the number of laps without caution was to our disadvantage tonight.” We’ll be back next week after competing in the Jackson Nationals and hopefully we’ll have a good weekend!”

Weekend Happenings

7/27/2009

Team Crown took to the road for the JSTS race in Britt, IA this past Friday and to Husets on Sunday looking to build some momentum going into the Knoxville races in a few weeks. What came out of the weekend was two top 5’s and a motor that came to life! Friday in Britt, driver Jody Rosenboom started 8th in the feature after running in the 4th position in the heat race. Jody was able to run up to the 4th position before a mid race restart and ending in the 5th spot by the time the checkered flag had flown. “We made a mistake on that restart and got into that hole in one which really upset the car” says Jody. “I felt like we were making some good speed, and got the motor to run pretty well finally, but it was really tough to pass and that doesn’t really give you a good gauge as to where you’re at with everything” said team owner Jason Johnson.
On to Sunday and turmoil ensued as Jody made contact with the number 5 car of Eric Lutz a few laps into the race. “I thought I had him clear, but I didn’t and I wrecked him. I feel bad, but you can’t blame that on anyone but me” said Jody. “It’s too bad, because that really killed what was a great run tonight. We were pretty darn good there and we suffered some damage to suspension parts that really affected the handling of the car. I wish I’d have pinched it a little more and we could have been in front of him in the next turn, but that’s not what happened so I’ll take the blame there. I know he’s not happy with me, and I tried to apologize, but at this point it is what it is.” Team Crown will enjoy a weekend off with no 360 racing at Husets this weekend. Then it’s on to the 360 Nationals in Knoxville.

Weekly Update

7/20/2009

Team Crown was back at it again this weekend at Husets Speedway. With hopes of a good track once again and a little luck, they thought they may have a chance for their 3rd win of the season. It was not to be though, as they fell one position short to Robby Wolfgang in the 360 feature race. “We were pretty tight in the A feature, so we kinda rode it out. If we’d have gotten that first start to go, we’d have probably been the car to beat, but a red flag came out and we had to have a complete restart. That’s just the way our luck has been most of this year it seems.” Says car owner Jason Johnson. Last weekend with the ASCS national touring series in the area, the crew took the #27 over in hopes of a good run there as well, but engine issues all night plagued the team and they didn’t finish in the B feature. “That was one of those nights for us. Nothing went right, and we kept thinking we’d found the problem, but each time we went out it got worse. We went from running on 6 cylinders in the heat to 3 in the B by the time Jody had pulled in. It just wasn’t meant to be, and I hate that it had to happen a big show like that. You have to have all your ducks in a row when those guys come rolling into town. They’re good, and they don’t make any mistakes.” Next up for the guys, it’s Britt, IA for the JSTS and Husets weekly program once again.
