Year End Review

2/8/2010

Driver Jody Rosenboom and the Team Crown sprint car team ended the year with another championship under their belt by winning the point title at Husets Speedway. The team also accepted the award “Team of the Year” they shared with the 2d team of Dusty Ballenger. “We’re honored to be recognized as a team of the year by the organization we raced for. It really gives us a boost as a team to know that someone was paying attention. Dusty and his guys were deserving of the award as well. They did a heck of a job and it’s really fun when you can race with people you consider good friends as well” commented team owner Jason Johnson.

Jason reflected on the year as a whole, “We had a decent year, and I’m happy with the results, but I think in some spots we left a little on the table. Winning the points was big, and gave us a title to hang our hats on. We’ve only run for points at places a handful of times and usually it’s worked in our favor. I think this upcoming year we’ll shy away from doing that and concentrate more on running better at bigger shows. There are feathers in my hat I wish I had, and we’re going after those this year. I just want to thank all the sponsors, family, friends, and fans. They’re all the biggest reason we are able to do what we do. It’s just a charge to see the people around us get excited about what we do!”

A Tough Way to End

9/28/2009

Only half of the Team Crown crew was able to make the last race, but they came ready to run as well as they could to try and secure another championship for the year. With owner Jason Johnson and crewman Joe Vosburgh unable to make the race with prior commitments, Jody and Joe had a helping hand in getting through the night. Ken Netsch, renowned in this area for being an owner/wrench in the past for Matt Spies and lending a helping hand to several other area racers, was on hand and took the wrenches for the night.
The track was heavy and rough, and made passing very difficult for most cars. After a single file affair in the heat race, which didn’t bode very well for the #27, they took the green in the A feature starting towards the back of the pack. After racing their way up to the 8th spot, a caution came out and a clot of mud became stuck under the throttle pedal, so Jody pulled pit side to get the problem fixed. Without the benefit of any caution laps to fix the problem, Jody was forced to retire from the race for the night. “I wasn’t happy about the call at all. We’re here running for a championship and to have something as simple as that happen, and not to even be able to attempt to get back out because they wouldn’t give us any laps just doesn’t sit well with me at all”, said Jody. Jason commented, “When I got the news via text message what happened, I was pretty upset, but that’s just the competitive part of me. I don’t agree with the call that was made, but at that point what can you do about it? It’ll take a while for this one to settle with me, but we’ll see what happens in the future.”
This ends the 2009 competition for Team Crown, but be on the lookout for a season ending recap in the next week or two from the team!

One of Those Nights

9/21/2009

Jason Johnson sums it up, “They say sometimes when you’re in a rut, it’s hard to get out of it. That just seemed to be our night the entire night. We had an overheating problem with the truck on the way down, and couldn’t figure out what we had going on there, but had to stop 3 times to put water in the truck in 90 miles. Then we get stuck leaving the track, which was my fault, and finally blew a hose on the truck coming home out in the middle of nowhere! It was just pure hell for me all night it seemed!”

As far as racing goes, the #27 started scratch in the heat with what seemed to be all the fastest guys at the track and managed a 5th place finish which would line them up outside 6th row for the feature. Immediately, Jody felt like he had a car that could run top 5. “The car felt really good to me, and had all the signs of what we needed to have a good finish. The brakes started to fade a bit, and then all of the sudden no brakes! That really kept us from running as hard as I wanted to in the corner, and going as fast as we should have.”

In the end, the Team Crown #27 Mighty Mouse sprint car would end in 8th place for the event and retain their lead in the JSTS point standings.

“We had planned on this being our last race due to commitments that I have on the 26th, but we’ll get the car ready and have Jody run it in the Fall Classic at Jackson to see if possibly we can pull out the point championship. I can’t figure out how we’re even close in the points due to the horrible runs we’ve had in the JSTS this season, but we’ve made all the shows and that’s really what’s kept us in it. We’ve had a motor lay over, blown tires and everything else it seems to keep us from finishing decent in some of these races. I guess we should just feel fortunate for having an opportunity to be the point champion pending the outcome of this Saturday”, says Jason.
